  • 60 things I learned at cornucopia.

    23. The Trappist monks at Guisemiti Monastery had a vow of silence. Chanting in the chapel made them look angelic, walking back to their quarters it was obvious that they didn’t like each other at all and were not happy campers.

  • That must have been an interesting experience. I was reading some of your previous posts. That tee shirt slogan is wonderful.

    RYC regarding the song:

I guess my point was that in this society two women can do that, one can sing the “male” role, without anyone raising their eyebrows. I didn’t mean the song was originally written for two women, but if you think of the words, it definitely implies romance so when two women sing it, people seem to accept it well enough.

If you can imagine it being sung by Frank Sinatra and Bing Cosby, and the public’s reaction 50 years ago, it would have seemed very humorous at the least and if anyone tried to a serious romance between two men it would have at least raised eyebrows, where as Ella and Sara could pull it off.

  • @Orlando - excellent clarification, thank you.  I agree with you, and in my part of the country, Missouri, things have not changed that much.  A Matthew Shepard incident could easily happen here.  Some headway has happened here but not a lot.  Missouri State University still wont change their discrimination policy to include gender bias.

  • Oh look, I walked into a gent’s chat with cigars and cognac. What song are you guys speaking of? I am so nosy. Tell me to leave.

  • @queenie - Leave my dahling, we are singing limericks that are not fit for tender years.   There was a young plumber named Lee, who plumbing his girl by the sea ta da ta da ta da
